Some events are remembered for the food, others for the music and others for one particular moment nobody expected. A barman show is often that moment. Here is what it involves and how to fit it into your celebration.
What is a barman show?
It is a live performance in which the bartender makes cocktails while juggling bottles, shakers and glasses. It is also known as flair bartending. It combines technique, rhythm and entertainment, and by the end of the act the audience has a drink in their hand.
Events where it works especially well
- Weddings: to kick off the party after dinner or liven up the welcome cocktail.
- Corporate events: product launches, team dinners or incentive trips looking for something different.
- Private parties and birthdays: at home, at a country estate or on a boat.
- Hotels and venues: as a special activity on a themed night.
How to get the most out of it
Choose the right moment
The show shines brightest when guests are gathered together and ready to party. Right after dinner or as the opening of the open bar are usually the best moments.
Think about the space
You need a clear area around the bar with good visibility for the audience. If the show includes fire, it is worth checking the conditions of the venue in advance, especially indoors.
Combine show and service
Ideally the show does not end after a few minutes of performance; the bar keeps running afterwards with good cocktails. That way the show marks the start of the party and the cocktail catering keeps the pace for the rest of the night.
Make it personal
Brand colours at a corporate event, the guest of honour’s favourite cocktail at a birthday or a special song at a wedding. Small details make the show feel made for that event.
